In her signature "Nature Sketching & Journaling" class, Elaine, an award winning storyboard and botanical artist, will demonstrate a variety of drawing and annotation techniques. Step-by-step instruction will guide you from the first stroke to a finished sketch. A portfolio of information and exercises and a field kit of tools including graphite and watercolor pencils will be explored within a 4"x6" sketchbook all included in the class fee. An artist's sketchbook becomes an encyclopedia of creative thought and images. Priceless!

Elaine Hultgren is a certified botanical artist and illustrator and is an instructor at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix Arizona and has several years of experience teaching nature sketching and journaling as well as botanical drawing and watercolor.

Elaine's watercolors and scientific illustrations have been on exhibit in galleries and museums and have received numerous awards. Nature sketching and journaling has been an effective artistic way to record observations on everything from world expeditions to backyard gardens, from the grand canyon to river pebbles, from the stars above to the dragonfly below. In this class you will be introduced to a variety of sketchbook styles and specialties.

Warning! Keeping a nature sketchbook/journal may lead to uncontrollable urges to spend more time out of doors and explore new and beautiful surroundings beyond your home, neighborhood or state.
