Cass Schorsch
Within one year
after learning how to weave a basket, Cass was
introduced to Hickory Bark and how to process
Black Ash wood splints and since then has never
looked back. She taught herself to harvest and
prepare the bark herself during summers in
Michigan where there are numerous White Birch
trees and Cedar trees. Her passion then led to
co-authoring a book on the subject, “Natural
Baskets,” published in 1992. Cass has been
teaching the art of bark basketry throughout the
US and Canada for 20 years. “In our busy
everyday lives, it is always good for the soul
to be able to sit down and actually create a
vessel of beauty, sensuality and artistic
expression. To be able to pass this on to our
fellow mankind is the pleasure we all seek”.
